“Coven of Celsus - Elizabeth”
A Synopsis of a Screenplay based on his novel
Written by
Randy Vanadisson
LOGLINE: A young college student finds herself seduced by a group of beautiful, sensuous, immortal, and deadly demons into joining their lives filled with unworldly pleasures - and pain - only to discover she’s been one of them all along...much to her eventual delight.
ACT 1: ELIZABETH is preparing for finals at the University of Michigan when she is approached by CELSUS, a handsome, mysterious man she’s immediately attracted to for reasons she can’t understand. He gives her a parchment handwritten in French and says when the time is right, she will come to him and all will become clear. Rather than being frightened, Elizabeth is intrigued and...stimulated. So much so that she can’t stop thoughts of the two of the making passionate love from invading her mind.
Not long after, Elizabeth is visited by the teenaged Linzie, who translates the parchment, causing Elizabeth to have a vision - or a memory? - of dining with the Marquis de Sade, invoking uncontrollable sexuality and bloodlust. Her desire is swiftly sated by the equally enflamed Linzie.
Elizabeth goes to the country estate of Celsus where she learns that he leads a coven of cursed, immortal women that are sustained by human flesh and blood, and who use S&M as
a means of discipline, punishment, and control to fulfill both their needs and desires. In an erotic, brutal, and yet strangely loving encounter with Celsus and some of the women, Elizabeth gets a glimpse into her own origins and what she must now do to take her place among them. Neither
good nor evil are ever quite what they seem, and are almost always relative concepts.
ACT 2: Elizabeth is dispatched to retrieve her first victim to share with the coven, picking up a hapless young man at a club near the university. As beautiful and seductive as she is, it’s not difficult, but he soon pays a price when she brings him back to the estate with her.
Her initiation continues as Elizabeth joins in with the others “punishing” a man who once brutalized one of the women. Her love for Celsus grows - inexplicably at first - but makes more sense when he reveals that they have been as one since ancient times and throughout all of their incarnations. The awareness of her own past also continues to grow as she has more visions, all deliciously carnal at
their base.
ACT 3: The coven embarks on a trip to both feed and enjoys themselves, which are largely one in the same to them. It turns out even demons need a vacation now and then. And the
destination, Rome, seems only fitting as like them, it is the Eternal City. Upon their return, the time has come for Elizabeth to learn the whole truth and take her anointed place in the coven,
willingly and without reservation. Celsus shares a vision with her of their beginnings in ancient Babylon when in his quest to become immortal, he summons the primal goddess/demon Lilith and things go horribly wrong - or right, depending on one’s point of view. He and his coven have indeed become immortal, but that is as much a curse as it is a blessing. In the final ascension ritual, Lilith is once again summoned to complete Elizabeth’s initiation and transformation. She takes her rightful place at Celsus’ side, content to do so and at peace with the monster she has become.
But, the story does not end there...
